Coreyah are a psychedelic Korean folk music group, integrating traditional Korean instruments, vocals, guitar, and percussion and pioneer a new style of Korean music that blends genres of contemporary ethnic and popular sounds while still maintaining the distinctive characteristics of traditional Korean instruments. The group’s unique freewheeling vision combines a variety of influences, from pop and Anglo-American rock, to Balkan, South American, and African flavours.

2020 marks their 10th anniversary, spreading the passion for Korean culture, and playing NPR's Tiny Desk Concert.

The band is chocked full of gifted musicians, consisting of Dong Kun Kim (daegeum, sogeum, tungso), Boyoung Ham (vocal), Cho Rong Kim (percussion), Kyungyi (percussion), Sunjin Na (geomungo), and Jaehyeon Ko (guitar).

‘Overtones and wildly bent notes flew from the strings, to the point that it looked like she was going to break the thing. Was this a sign of things to come? Absolutely. By the end of about an hour onstage, people were dancing in the aisles and calling the band back for an encore with a series of standing ovations… Beyond the musicians’ sizzling chops, what’s most interesting about this band is how subtly they weave classic Korean folk themes into a rock framework’

(New York Music Daily)

‘An uninhibited vision of Korean traditional music with some psychedelic rock, Balkan gypsy, even sounds from South America and Africa’

(NPR)

‘Different, bizarre and sometimes surreal; comparing Coreyah to any mainstream western artist is difficult. Consigning them to the narrow strictures of one genre – even more difficult. Performing everything from Beatles covers to Korean folk love stories, the band were passionate throughout, their energy infectious and their music uplifting’
