Jasmine Gardosi

Jasmine Gardosi

Tue 26 Oct 2021 & Wed 27 Oct 2021

Jasmine Gardosi is an award-winning spoken word poet, multiple slam champion and beatboxer – and this is her brand new show, Dancing To Music You Hate.

Jasmine Gardosi's poems on sex education, LGBTQ+ issues and mental health have propelled her name to national and international recognition across platforms including the BBC and Button Poetry.

In this brand new show blending music and poetry, she converses, argues and competes with a live band of instrumentalists who merge dubstep basslines with celtic influences into an explosive, boundary-defying fusion. Through it all, Jasmine finds increasingly original ways to interact with, challenge and stand up to the musicians as she grapples with self-expression and soars through experiences of gender identity. Prepare to be moved by both music and message as she cracks open binaries with boldness, compassion and humour, to take a better look inside.

Joining her is Alternative Dubstep Orchestra’s Damo Wilding and DJ C@ in the H@, as well as trumpeter/techno artist Sam Wooster and Ire-Ish’s multi-instrumentalist Jobe Baker-Sullivan (also music director of the show). The show’s opening night will feature BBC Young Jazz Musician 2018 saxophonist Xhosa Cole.

The first half of each night will be given over to open mic slots and guest poets.

Commissioned by Warwick Arts Centre.
