An all-star cast of musicians come together to celebrate the life of legendary South African trumpeter Hugh Masekela

Hugh was a long-time friend of the EFG London Jazz Festival and together with the Masekela family we have put together a fine evening of music to celebrate Hugh's life and musical work. You can expect evergreens from the Masekela songbook – township anthems that carry the weight of South Africa's history but live on to inspire and convey the abundant joy of rootsy Afro fusion.

Leading the bill are vocalist Sibongile Khumalo and great Zimbabwean singer Oliver Mtukudzi. Sibongile met Hugh upon his return from exile in 1990 and he encouraged her to develop her own unique vocal style, while Mtukudzi and Bra Hugh shared a deep love for their African roots and heritage. They are joined by Complete, a fantastic young South African vocal ensemble who were supported by Hugh Masekela’s passion and enthusiasm for their music.

This concert will premiere in Johannesburg before coming to London a week later for this special performance.

The show takes place at Royal Festival Hall on Sunday 18 November. You can find tickets and more information HERE
