Calling all budding writers

Calling all new and aspiring jazz writers! The Write Stuff returns to the EFG London Jazz Festival in November with a new series of brilliant workshops and mentoring sessions. Founded and organised by Jazzwise and Serious, the new writers initiative gives budding music writers a free opportunity to work with professional journalists to improve their writing skills and develop an understanding of music criticism and the music press, as well as getting to see a bunch of concerts!

Sessions will include feature writing and live reviews with Kevin Le Gendre, an insight into the history and development of the UK jazz and music press with Jon Newey and online journalism with Mike Flynn, as well as input from other writers and jazz industry figures.

Previous participants have gone on to be published in The Guardian, The Wire and Jazzwise as well as work within the wider jazz and broadcasting industry. This year’s new writers will have their work posted on both the Jazzwise and EFG London Jazz Festival websites and one review considered to be of particular merit will be published in a subsequent edition of Jazzwise.

To apply for a place this year, submit a 300-word review of a recent gig together with a CV to [email protected] with ‘The Write Stuff 2015’ in the subject line. Deadlines for submissions is Monday 28 September 2015.

Applicants must be 18 years old or over and be available in London on:
Friday 13 November (evening)
Saturday 14 – Sunday 15 November
Saturday 21 – Sunday 22 November
