Pianists Thomas Enhco and Maki Namekawa present a unique and innovative version of Keith Jarrett's The Köln Concert where classical traditions meet jazz.

A written transcription of an improvisation, The Köln Concert has been cemented as a cornerstone of the piano repertoire and as such this work questions the relationship between classical music and jazz. The classically trained Maki Namekawa faithfully reproduces the transcription of the concert. Jazz pianist Thomas Enhco, on the other hand, offers a new improvisation based on the original melodic framework. In doing so, the two pianists present a reinvented work that aims to perpetuate the atmosphere of the now iconic concert.

Pianist and composer Enhco earned the SACEM Grand Prize for Jazz in 2020 and has recorded for Verve, Deutsche Grammophon and Sony Music. Namekawa performed in the Salzburg Festival, the New York Lincoln Center Festival and Musik-Biennale Berlin. In 2017, she was awarded the Ruhr Piano-Festival Prize.

Produced by the Barbican.
