Robert Ryman’s approach to painting was shaped by his early love of jazz. After moving to New York to pursue a career as a saxophonist, he became a painter, but continued to listen to music as he worked. He saw painting as a form of improvisation, with each brushstroke building on the last like successive notes in jazz.

Sarathy Korwar is one of the UK’s most distinctive jazz artists, fusing jazz, electronics, Indian folk and classical influences. His work has earned two GRAMMY nominations, an AIM Award and MOJO Jazz Album of the Year. He has collaborated with Anoushka Shankar, Kamasi Washington, Shabaka Hutchings and the Metropole Orkest, and performed at Sydney Opera House, North Sea Jazz Festival and London Jazz Festival.
