One True Pairing
Tom Fleming, former Wild Beasts songwriter, vocalist and multi-instrumentalist is back with a new project, One True Pairing. The name, One True Pairing, comes from internet fan fiction, where you write the perfect relationship you always wished existed.
Endless Rain is Fleming's latest album, a dark, but compassionate and hopeful sophomore record. It was created on the back of a difficult personal period and with a new direction. Recorded in Dublin in 2022 with producer John ‘Spud’ Murphy (Lankum, black midi, Caroline), Endless Rain boldly restates Fleming’s vision with an autumnal, searching and often uplifting record shaped by the backgrounds in traditional music, classical and noise rock of its players. Sonically, Endless Rain is an ambitious and widescreen record quite unlike anything in Fleming’s back catalogue. It is the product of a singer-songwriter finding new clarity.
This record comes a full five years after his first solo outing, 2019’s One True Pairing, itself written after the final Wild Beasts gig in early 2018. Written entirely by himself, Tom brought on Ben Hillier (Depeche Mode, Nadine Shah, Graham Coxon) as producer to realise the sound he was looking for. Deeply personal, with a wider political resonance, the cornerstones of One True Pairing are male identity, class and taste.
