midori jaeger is a cellist and songwriter originally from Japan. She headlines Stone Nest with an intimate and captivating performance to launch her new EP (Re)planted with a band.
(Re)planted and her previous EP (Un)planted draw upon a childhood spent across multiple continents and an adulthood geographically separated from family, exploring themes of displacement, belonging, heritage, and solace found in creative expression. The songs were written at the cello, an instrument that was once a living tree. The cello and the songs together draw poignant parallels between the natural world and the human search for home, and self.
Strikingly personal and totally unique in style, midori’s music has been championed by The New York Times (‘Ten Songs We’re Talking About This Week’), CLASH, The Line of Best Fit, BBC Radio 3, BBC 6 Music and KEXP.
midori is a genre-defying collaborator who has recently performed with Imogen Heap, Jessie Ware, Courtney Pine, Patrick Watson, Daughter, Tanita Tikaram and Christian Löffler.
For this performance midori will be joined by:
Ben Brown - Drums
Maria Chiara Argirò - Piano
Felix Higginbottom - Bass Synth/Percussion/Guitar
Presented by Serious and Asian Tones
“midori jaeger...often builds her songs atop pizzicato cello parts that sketch harmony, counterpoint and shifting meters as they hop around her voice...The spartan production - cello, drums, vocals, - gives her the space she’s claiming.”
The New York Times, Jon Pareles
"midori jaeger has created something singular here: A world unto itself, percussive and human, feverish and tender.’’
Atwood Magazine
"A sensuous, subtly propulsive track built around her lustrous voice, airy synths and a rhythmic cello groove consisting of plucked strings."
The Line of Best Fit
