Sam Sweeney

Sam Sweeney is an outstanding violinist, composer, educator and recording artist working in the English folk scene. For the last decade Sam has been a touring and recording artist with artists such as Bellowhead, Eliza Carthy, Emily Portman, The Full English and Leveret.

Sam has written and arranged music for numerous of successful albums and projects. Most recently he composed a piece for the Commonwealth Heads Of Government Meeting 2018 at Buckingham Palace.

In 2015 Sam was voted Musician Of The Year at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards and this year he released his debut solo album on Island Records.

In 2016 the musician took a conscious move into the world of music education and became the inaugural Artistic Director of the National Youth Folk Ensemble. He is passionate about making folk music accessable to all audiences, and allowing opportunities for young people from all backgrounds to learn to play folk music.

He is currently working towards creating a National Fiddle School initiative.
