Commissioning new music

Serious is dedicated to providing opportunities to talented artists and your support will help us to take a leading role in regularly commissioning new music and facilitating artistic collaborations. This area of work contributes to the development of the art form, through the ongoing encouragement of creativity and innovation in the music we all love.

In 2017 Serious commissioned over 35 artists to create new work as part of the 25 for 25: New Music Matters commissioning programme for the 25th Anniversary EFG London Jazz Festival including:

  • Participation piece A Brief History of the Coolest Instrument in the World developed by British guitarist Chris Montague, also performed at Hull Jazz Festival
  • Work for emerging artists Yazz Ahmed and Ben Cottrell amongst others
  • Major new work which featured as part of our concert hall programme, including Jazz Voice and Terence Blanchard's concert with the BBC Concert Orchestra.

We cannot offer these opportunities to artists without support from individuals like you. Please follow this link to donate.
