The Shape Of Becontree
Each year, EFG London Jazz Festival curates a mass participation project as an opportunity for creative people of all circumstances, backgrounds, abilities and interests to come together and perform as part of the Festival programme. As a part of Becontree Forever’s wider celebration, the Jazz Festival wants to celebrate the creativity of young people in the area by harnessing the strength of the local dance scene.
Serious want to work with schools, youth groups and dance organisations who engage with passionate young dancers and who are keen to be part of a large-scale project. The project will involve rehearsing over the Summer and Autumn terms, with choreography dictated by each individual group and their dance leaders.
In the Autumn term, Serious and the Jazz Festival team will organise filming each group in an outdoor setting around the Becontree area, celebrating the locality as well as the young people who make up the community. This film will be produced, edited and premiered within EFG London Jazz Festival 2021, which takes place from 12th to 21st November.
