This EFG London Jazz Festival 2019 concert began with a showcase of poetry, spoken word and singing from an ensemble of men from HM Prison Wormwood Scrubs, which was the fruit of six musical workshop sessions run by Sherry Davis and Alain 'Fusion' Clapham, followed by a unique performance from Grammy Award-winning musician Rhiannon Giddens with Francesco Turrisi, performing songs specifically curated for the audience of residents and the general public.

'It was extraordinarily moving, as was their visible reaction to the sincere ovations they received. This, if you were in any doubt, was what music can do, what it can offer, not just as a way of transcending immediate circumstances but as a signpost to real hope'
