BASCA Award-winning saxophonist/composer Trish Clowes & her quartet My Iris perform new music along with material from her latest album Ninety Degrees Gravity.
Described as “one of the most agile and original jugglers of improv and adventurous composition to have appeared in the UK in recent times” multi-award winning saxophonist and composer Trish Clowes has developed into one of the most exciting artists on the jazz scene today.
In 2008 she won the Peter Whittingham Development Award that allowed her to form her first ensemble, Tangent, followed by her eponymously named CD debut on Basho Records. A BBC Radio 3 New Generation Artist, Trish was nominated for a British Composer Award (BASCA) in 2013, going on to win it in 2015 for her BBC commission “The Fox and the Chestnut” (launched at the EFG London Jazz Festival).
Her current quartet, My Iris, is widely recognised as in the vanguard of British jazz, and Trish’s last two albums with the band, the eponymous “My Iris” and their latest “Ninety Degrees Gravity” have been rapturously received, establishing her as an artist of considerable significance and stature.
For this 606 appearance however Trish will be working with an entirely new lineup, featuring noted Birmingham-based trumpet player Percy Pursglove and Matt Robinson-piano, Conor Chaplin-bass & Winston Clifford-drums performing a tantalising repertoire of favourite standards and Trish's own exemplary compositions. An absolute treat.
