LONDON Jazz Cafe
Algerian songwriter Souad Massi is going to grace the Jazz Cafe stage with a rare UK appearance, performing her politically charged lyrics and her Americana influenced guitar Rock. Over the past two decades Souad Massi has gained a lot of respect from music fans over the world because of her fight for intellectual and creative freedom. In her 20’s she joined the political rock band Atokar, a brave choice for a woman in an Algeria ravaged by a long civil war. The growing popularity of the band made her the target of anonymous death threats which eventually led her to flee Algeria and relocate to Paris. In France she got a record deal and released five successful solo albums sung in French, Arabic and Kabyle, and influenced by the arena rock of western bands like U2 and Led Zeppelin. Massi’s powerful performances continue to fascinate people around the world and we can’t wait to host her in the intimate atmosphere of the Jazz Cafe.
