The trio will be presenting new material that is inspired by Miles Davis’ 1970s electric period and the music of Herbie Hancock’s Headhunters. It blends driving jazz funk grooves with afro beat, lush string pads and soulful melodic improvised explorations. The Peter Edwards Trio have released 2 albums 'Safe and Sound' (2013) and 'A Matter of Instinct' (2016). Both have been reviewed favourably - 3* Guardian, 4* Evening Standard and 4* MOJO. The 'psychedelic soul sessions' is a new direction for the band since embracing the influence of the 70's electric period of Miles Davis and Herbie Hancock. He is the 2015 Parliamentary Jazz Awards ‘Newcomer of the year’ and was among the nominees for the 2015 Jazz FM 'Breakthrough Artist' award. He works with acclaimed artists Mica Paris and Zara McFarlane, directs the Nu Civilisation Orchestra and has been commissioned to compose music for the New Music Biennial 2017 (PRS Foundation).
