Grammy Award-winning composer, saxophonist, and producer Joe Lovano features in this special ECM evening with Trio Tapestry featuring pianist Marilyn Crispell and Carmen Castaldi on drums. Joe Lovano’s continuous quest for new modes of artistic expression and new sounds, his experimenting with a variety of ensembles and formats, his dynamic personality and his creativity further define the iazz idiom on his first recording as for the ECM label.

Long-time collaborator Marilyn Crispell is hailed as ‘one of the most highly regarded pianists at the sharp end of contemporary jazz,’ by The Guardian. Carmen Castaldi is an outstanding percussionist continuing the legacy of Paul Motian. In Joe’s own words, Trio Tapestry's innovative compositions are ‘some of the most intimate, personal music’ Lovano has recorded thus far.

EFG London Jazz Festival celebrates the 50th anniversary of the iconic record label ECM in a day-long takeover of the Southbank Centre
including the previously announced Jan Garbarek show.

Lovano's sound is utterly his own: woody and personal while still gentle and sumptuous. Crispell is utterly her own through note choice, phrasing, voicing, and rhythmic temperament — creating a voice that feels both still and teetering on the edge of potential energy.

Songs of Today, Songs of Tomorrow

Elina Duni is a Swiss-Albanian singer. Having been signed to ECM Records since 2012, her hallmark combination of traditional Albanian folk songs and jazz has lead to worldwide critical acclaim. For this new project, she is joined by guitarist and BBC New Generation
Artist Rob Luft, one of the rising stars of London's flourishing contemporary jazz scene. Luft's playing incorporates echoes of West African high-life, Celtic folk and textural minimalism. His joyously original sound finds an ideal counterpart in Elina Duni's vocals. Together, they take us on a journey through timeless folk songs which still resonate so truly today, as well as playing their co-written original material about contemporary issues facing us all.
