LONDON O2 Shepherd's Bush Empire
Shepherd's Bush Green
Jeff Goldblum plays a mean jazz piano, in addition to starring in Jurassic Park, Independence Day and The Fly, where he provides that uniquely wry, charming and unpredictable edge. In fact, he formed his band The Mildred Snitzer Orchestra in LA (though they’re named after a Pittsburgh relative of his) and they play loose, improvised versions of jazz standards from Summertime to Stella By Starlight, which they’ve just recorded for Decca.
They’re pretty relaxed onstage – Jeff makes sure his musicians and the audience have a good time together, and after the release of their debut album and sold out shows at Ronnie Scotts and Cadogan Hall you don’t want to miss this special encounter.
‘ Showmanship and musicianship joyously combined. ’
‘ The band are virtuosic players and Goldblum an able pianist - you can’t see him quitting the day job, but he might just have found his vocation ’
‘ The EFG London Jazz Festival has no shortage of exceptional pianists performing over the next ten days, but amongst them Jeff Goldblum has carved a niche of his own simply by being unwaveringly Jeff Goldblum. ’
‘ Here is a performance brimmed full of joie de vivre, infectiously quirky humour and not a little musical talent. Celebrity be damned; in this setting Goldblum is entirely and unusually accessible. ’
