In a career spanning more than 50 years, legendary saxophonist and composer Jan Garbarek has been one of the defining and most influential musicians of European jazz with his hymnal, lyrical, vocal, ethereal, meditative and undoubtedly Scandinavian sound. From his groundbreaking ECM recordings to a myriad touring history, Jan Garbarek is incessantly composing new music and still striving at age 71 for new and better musical experiences, preferably live in concert.
In his own words, his creative work is a “rolling thing” - a hybrid, a mix. It’s not about achieving some kind of perfection or remaining true to some tradition, but rather expression of his enjoyment for a wide range of influences ranging from Norwegian songs to electronic music, from African sounds to contemporary music.

‘ 'Garbarek is as close to perfection as it’s humanly possible to achieve' ’
‘ 'A kaleidoscopic set that moved urgently from Garbarek's spooky high-tenor wails over wind noises, through wistful soprano-sax melodies, early electric-Miles atmospherics and crunching rock riffs.' ’
