Helena Kay + Will Arnold-Forster Quartet

LONDON The Oxford
256 Kentish Town Rd

Saxophonist Helena Kay and guitarist Will Arnold-Forster explore the repertoire of the Sonny Rollins/Jim Hall quartet of the 1960's.

Scottish born, New York based tenor saxophonist Helena Kay has quickly rose to prominence since graduating from the Guildhall school of Music in 2016. The recipient of numerous awards and prizes - including the prestigious Peter Whittingham award (2017) and Young Scottish Jazz Musician of the year (2015), Kay relocated to New York after releasing her debut album Moon Palace (Ubuntu Music) to critical acclaim. She is joined in this special homecoming concert by long-time collaborator, award winning guitarist Will Arnold-Forster as they explore the repertoire of the great Sonny Rollins/Jim Hall quartet of the 1960's, with fresh interpretations of their compositions providing a point of departure for their own improvisations.

The quartet is completed by the extraordinary David Ingamells on drums (Kate Williams, Henry Spencer) and world-class double bassist Conor Chaplin (Mark Kavuma, Laura Jurd, Dave Storey).

'Moon Palace leaves the listener wanting more of Kay's rich playing... it's remarkably self-assured and forecasts an imaginative career to come.' Ammar Kalia, Downbeat

'Kay and her trio confirmed both their understated group virtuosity and command of narrative drive.' Mike Hobart, Financial Times.
