Four-time Grammy nominated singer Candi Staton will play a unique show in the intimate surroundings of Omeara near London Bridge on Tuesday 3 July. Although the southern belle could rest on the laurels of her iconic tracks 'Young Hearts Run Free' and the multi-platinum 'You Got the Love', which have influenced a generation of superstar fans (ranging from Florence & The Machine and Jessie J to Mary J. Blige and Jason Isbell), she continues to make bold, new musical statements and this, her only London show, will launch her forthcoming 30th album, due for release this summer via Thirty Tigers.
Praise for her musical legacy has been unstoppable of late. Jason Isbell reprised Staton’s 1969 B-side 'Heart On A String'. Christina Aguilera sampled 1972’s 'Best Thing You Ever Had' and French producer Jean Tonique’s remix of 'Best Thing' was featured in a Twitter Super Bowl TV ad campaign. Paloma Faith, Snoop Dogg, Luke James and Pixie Lott have all expressed admiration. Florence & The Machine and Joss Stone have both cut 'You Got the Love'.
Candi Staton's evergreen sound has made for beautiful rhythms with a new generation of artists. Her 2008 collaboration with British duo Groove Armada, 'Love Sweet Sound', returned her to the US Dance charts for the first time since 1980. She’s also enjoyed a huge international hit with various DJ remixes (Frankie Knuckles, Ashley Beedle) of her inspirational tune, 'Hallelujah Anyway'.
Legendary UK DJ Pete Tong brought her in for a remake of 'You Got The Love' with Jules Buckley’s Heritage Orchestra.
