LONDON Oliver's Jazz Bar
9 Nevada St,
As part of a series of London Jazz Festival concerts curated by Jazz pianist Sam Leak, and hosted by Oliver's Jazz Bar in Greenwich, saxophonist Alex Western-King will present a new project revisiting the music of the bebop masters. Noted by Jazzwise Magazine as 'One to Look Out For In 2019,' Western-King is an award-winning musician with a passion for keeping the bebop tradition alive. The newly formed Alex Western-King Quartet have already gained a reputation for being one of the 'hardest swinging bands in town,’ infusing their love for classic bebop with contemporary improvisation. Alongside critically acclaimed musicians Sam Leak (piano), Jay Davis (drums) and Jonny Wickham (double bass), the Alex Western-King Quartet will present a special programme of unique arrangements, paying homage to the music of Cannonball Adderley, Johnny Griffin, and Charlie Parker.
"Equally adept on alto and tenor saxophone, Alex reaches deep into the core of jazz thus refining a personal statement and unfettered connection with both his fellow musicians and the audience - a swinging and robust player when riding the tempo of a number, he displays a rare sensitivity on ballads" - Paul Pace, Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club
