Dominic Canning

Piano / Synth

Growing up in South London, Dominic Canning (who goes by artist name of Doom Cannon) is a product of south London music services and surrounding services such as Kinetika Bloco and Tomorrow’s Warriors.

Dominic began learning music within SMS (Southwark music services) on the flute at the age of 8 and went on to learn alto/ tenor saxophone and classical piano whilst he was there. During the ages of 8 - 15 he began to discover a love for a jazz piano, which he taught himself up until age 16 when he got lessons at Kingsdale Foundation school with Adam Glasser. This led him to audition at Middlesex university which I got into with an unconditional offer. At Middlesex University he started his first band Triforce along with Mansur brown, Benjamin Appiah and Ricco Komolafe, at the age of 17/18 which went on to be signed by JazzRefreshed and feature on Brownswood recordings ‘We Out here’ release. As well as Triforce Dominic’s band Project Karnak that he started with drummer Sam Ouisellat attracted the attention of DJs around the globe allowing them to travel to Brazil in conjunction with British underground and Jazz Refreshed.

After University, Dominic met Ahnanse, which led to him being a founding member of Jazz FM award winning Steamdown. Whilst playing at Steamdown weekly nights he was approached by Celeste to become her musical director, which is the position he has been in for four years, touring and recording with her.

Now he is starting his campaign for his debut record coming out on Brownswood records, the first single of which “Amalgamation” was released in January 2022.

Dominic Canning’s debut record is an accumulation of the music that has inspired him and his life as a young black man growing up in Londo
