This year-long project explored practical approaches to participation in classical and jazz music by children and young people from under-represented, culturally/ethnically diverse and socio-economically disadvantaged backgrounds (including white working class children).
The project was facilitated by Andy Grappy, who led a core group of musicians including Arun Ghosh, Cheryl Alleyne and Nathaniel Facey working alongside classical musicians from the London Symphony Orchestra. These musicians delivered a series of workshops during weekends, evenings and holiday periods, culminating in a performance in the Hackney Music Festival Partnerships Day in July 2016.
The project will act as a progression route for participants in the other LSO and Hackney projects, with further opportunities signposted to ensure legacy of engagement for these young people.
The group performed again as part of our Next Generation Takes Over programme during the EFG London Jazz Festival 2016, on the Clore Ballroom stage at Southbank Centre.
