Sue Steward. 19 September 1946 - 24 August 2017

It was with great sadness that we learnt of the unexpected passing of the Sue Steward, whose writing on music was massively influential in introducing a range of world musics to a wide audience. Informed, always curious and enthusiastic, she was a real force for good in today’s multi-faceted scene - her writing but one side of a fascinating career that ranged from assisting Malcolm McLaren (minding the Sex Pistols no less), becoming press officer in the early days of Virgin Records, to co-founding the Mambo Inn club nights, publishing a landmark book on salsa (Salsa; musical heartbeat of Latin America) amongst much more and, in more recent years, working as a highly respected writer on photography and visual art.
