A hidden gem from 1993 and the very first Jazz Festival.  The release of hitherto unsuspected recordings of the brass ensemble co-led by the gifted composer John Warren and master saxophonist John Surman drew terrific reviews for a suite distinguished by sumptuous ensemble voicings and deftly placed solo statements, all inspired by the extraordinary 19th century journeying of Warren’s grandfather.

Messrs Surman and Warren are joined for this concert by the original rhythm team of bassist Chris Laurence and drummer John Marshall providing peerless momentum for an ensemble drawn together specially for the occasion from the ranks of the Royal Academy of Music’s jazz course.

A special 25th anniversary concert comes from composer John Warren and saxophonist John Surman, with music first performed by a brass ensemble at the inaugural London Jazz Festival in 1992 - it promises to be one of the festival’s highlights
